Depardieu's Leg Amputated Jun 10, 2:58 PM EST (Associated Press) -- Respected French actor Guillaume Depardieu had his right leg amputated to end years of pain from a bacterial infection, friends said Tuesday. The 32-year-old son of French film star Gerard Depardieu fell off a motorcycle in 1996 and needed several operations, one of which led to a bacterial infection. In May, Depardieu announced his decision to have his leg amputated, saying he could no longer live with the pain. He had the operation late last week. Last month, Depardieu created a foundation to raise money to research infectious diseases that are spread in hospitals. People close to the foundation announced that he had gone through the operation. Depardieu starred with his father in last year's "A Loving Father." He also appeared with the elder Depardieu in 1991's "All the Mornings of the World," about an 18th century viola de gamba player.
